Revisiting Sony's Mission, Vision, Values
Officially, the new management team has begun with the conclusion of the General Shareholder Meeting on June 19th.
At the Corporate Strategy Meeting and Management Conference, I talked about Sony's three business domain of Electronics, Entertainment and Financial Services and how these businesses have a unifying concept or a common DNA, which is to engage with people. I also outlined the Group's overall direction as "getting closer to people." The Electronics business connects creators and users. Our Entertainment business gets us closer to creators, and our Financial Services business is about getting closer to users through its DTC (Direct to Consumer) efforts.
In addition to the above keywords to denote the direction of our company, I also highlighted the importance of adopting a "sense of urgency", "humbleness" and "long-term view". And, finally, I talked about Sony's contribution to society through initiatives in areas such as medical, safety in the age of mobility, and education.
Now that the direction of the company has been identified, I'm beginning to feel that perhaps this is the appropriate time to review and if necessary, revisit our Group's Mission, Vision and Values, which lies at the foundation for everything that we do.
For example, it is written in the Founding Prospectus that "the first and primary motive for setting up this company was to create a stable work environment where engineers who had a deep and profound appreciation for technology could realize their societal mission and work to their heart's content." There's also the famous phrase "to establish an ideal factory that stresses a spirit of freedom and open-mindedness." And, then there's Mission Vision and Value that you're familiar with.
What do you think of these statements considering where Sony needs to go in the future? I have my own thoughts, but I wanted to take this opportunity to hear your thoughts and opinions. Please send me your input and feedback on our current Mission, Vision and Value and what you might suggest for us moving forward.
