Sony Co-Founder Akio Morita and Diversity

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Akio Morita Library in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture. (You can see details of the Library, including its location here.) It houses a collection of important records and documents from throughout Sony co-founder Akio Morita's life, going back to his childhood, and provides visitors with a fascinating insight into his interests, and the values he upheld.

I believe that Sony's "Diversity" is one such value that Morita-san instilled in the company, and entrusted to us, to build on his legacy. I felt this visit offered a glimpse into the origins of this diversity. As an individual, Morita-san embraced a variety of different cultures, art, and personal relationships, and I believe that these values were naturally reflected in his management style.

As we approach the 75th anniversary of Sony's founding on May 7, I was once again filled with a sense of great responsibility for making our diversity a strength across the Sony Group.

I also stopped by the Sony Store in Nagoya, which relocated and reopened last November. The store is particularly strong in the area of digital imaging, and since its relocation overall sales are exceeding the previous year. The store layout makes the most of its nearly 800m2 floor space, creating an atmosphere where customers are comfortable to take their time and try out our products at their leisure.

With everyone at the Sony Store Nagoya

As always, I look forward to receiving your feedback.
